Shepherd Serve and Learn Trip
Team Updates | June 15, 2023
Today we worked on the sanctuary in the church we’re staying at. I (Selah) got to help paint the “cry room” (for crying babies), now renamed the prayer room, which was my favorite part of the day. The others scraped glue off the floor since a different team tore up the carpet in there to redo it. After that we went to poverty 101 and talked about the 10 Assets. Shepherd defines poverty as the degree to which a family or individual possess or do not possess these assets. All the programs that Shepherd does are focused on helping their neighbors acquire and grow in these assets. Want to know what they are? Ask us about them!
After lunch, the girls got to go to the pool with the rest of the school and swim for the rest of the school day. Today was the last day kids could finish their derby cars they’ve been making all week. I also helped in the art room. We made bracelets, bookmarks, and did scratch art. After dinner we did our devotional, which helped us think of ways we can continue to help others outside of Shepherd.
Today I (Rafy) got to go to the pool with the girls. the weather was very nice, but the pool was very cold. I also got to hang out with some of the kids during Summer+. I’ve recently been trying to build a strong relationship with this one boy. He is very sweet and a lot of fun to hang out with. We usually go outside, and I would throw a ball with him. He is kind of sensitive, so I have to be really patient with him and really take my time with him. He is a great kid and has a lot stored for him in the future. Something that really made my week was when 2 kids both came up to me and hugged me. I had them both last year and I was really surprised and happy that they both remembered me. We are looking forward to all that God has in store for us tomorrow!
