Shepherd Serve and Learn Trip 2025 – Friday

Posted: July 5, 2025

Hi friends!

Friday was our last day at Shepherd. To start the day, we had Poverty 101 again. We learned about the 10 Assets that are used to define poverty and how much more complex poverty is than just lack of income.

Since today was the Fourth of July, we had a sort of half day in Summer Excel followed by a July 4th Party! There were a bunch of activities ranging from Bingo and crafts to water balloons and a huge slide. The kids had a blast!
Eddie: I had the opportunity to share a bit of a faith story with one of the kids. She had a lot of bug bites and was struggling with not itching, so I shared how God helped me through the time I got 50 bug bites on my hands in one week. I then prayed with her about her bug bites. It was great to see how students have been able to connect spiritually with kids over even the smallest things.
It was hard not being able to say goodbye to many of the kids because many weren’t there in class on Friday. It was also difficult saying goodbye to the kids that were there today as many of them we may never see again. Nevertheless, the relationships and connections we have made over this week were memorable and had a deep impact both on us and the kids.
Thank you again for your prayers. Please continue to pray for the kids and the amazing team at Shepherd, as well as a safe journey home for us.
