Shepherd Serve & Learn Trip 2024 – Wednesday

Posted: July 19, 2024

We are halfway through our week at Shepherd…
We started off with breakfast which was comprised of french toast sticks and sausages. We then proceeded to our second Poverty 101 lesson. The lesson was about the wants and needs of different socioeconomic classes, and how they differ from each other. We then listened to a lesson from David about appreciative inquiry, and an exercise of coming up with the good things and the bad things that we had heard about the area around Shepherd, and how your perspective isn’t the full story. We then went to our classes and helped throughout the day. During worship, we performed our skit on John 18:1-27 that was originally intended for Monday.
Once school was over, we helped with Summer+, and kept the kids entertained until their parents picked them up. Once everyone cleared out, we had our devotional, which focused the definition of worship and how lamenting relates to that. Once that was over, we headed over the Mexican restaurant which is owned by the parents of Shepherd students. We had fun seeing the reactions of everybody else after eating the extremely spicy peppers on the tables. We headed back to engage in some fun, recreational activities before we headed to bed so we get rested and energized for the day tomorrow (or at least partially).
