Help our Neighbors Learn English

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted life in many ways, but the need for our immigrant neighbors to learn English continues. Faith International English Classes (FIEC) is planning on conducting socially distanced, but in-person classes in the fall. We believe that in-person classes will best fulfill our mission to love students well and teach them English well. All adult students and instructors will be required to wear face masks at all times and to remain at least six feet apart as much as they can in order to keep everyone as safe as possible.

We will also be providing tutoring virtually for those who are quarantined or who cannot come in person for medical reasons.

In order to provide both in-person instruction and on-line tutoring as well as childcare for those attending in person, we need a large staff. If you are interested in helping our neighbors by forming personal, caring relationships that help them flourish in the United States, then volunteering with FIEC may be for you! You’ll gain new perspectives, make new friends from a variety of backgrounds, and share stories, customs, and lives. Volunteer Options

Volunteer to teach English

Due to social distancing restrictions, classroom structure will be different this year than it has been in the past. Each classroom will have only 2-16 adult students. They will also have between one and three instructors. Virtual teaching opportunities also exist.

Training is provided for all volunteer instructors, and support is offered throughout the year. If you’re new to the program, you’ll receive several weeks of training to prepare.

Volunteer with FIEC Kids

Have a heart for working with kiddos? All FIEC students are invited to bring their children (ages 6 weeks-13 years) to FIEC Kids. Children are grouped in classrooms by age. Teacher and helper volunteer positions are available across all age ranges. Kids in preschool through 4th grade are provided with one hour of curriculum per evening with the remainder of the time free play. Older children play games and receive help with their homework. Younger children only engage in guided free play for the two hours. Curriculum, crafts, and snacks are supplied each week.

Short-Term Volunteer Roles

Please come along side us! There are many short-term volunteer opportunities available, like being a substitute instructor, setting up classrooms, help with special events, and more.
